Two short narrated animations for the start of Lecture 2. Part 1 builds a datum, from latitude and longitude to the ellipsoid, the geoid and the datums used in North America. Part 2 flattens it onto a map: projection surfaces, distortion, and the coordinate systems in the Georgia lab data.
